The Enrichment Center was founded on the belief that sound reading and writing skills are essential.
Since I began teaching in the mid 1990's, there has been an explosion of technology. Computers and iPads have replaced paper and pencil. Cutting and pasting is now often a substitute for creative thinking. Video games and social media such as Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter and Tik Tok have become major distractions deteriorating basic study skills and planning.
After many years in the classroom, my hope is to guide students through this digital age without losing critical thinking skills and the fundamentals of solid reading and writing. Whether it is homework support or strategic reading intervention, I am happy to partner with teachers and parents to help my students reach their greatest potential.
I have spent many happy years in schools as an eager student, enthusiastic teacher, hardworking administrator and most importantly, proud mom. I have experience teaching English Language Arts and have a passion for balancing rigor and fun to help students achieve their personal best. My goal is to help students establish strong foundational skills and employ higher level thinking strategies. However, most importantly, I endeavor to build self-confidence so children can see themselves as successful students.
I attended St. Andrew School as a child where I received my solid foundation of grammar, reading, and writing. At Villa Joseph Marie High School, I continued to be inspired to pursue my passion, English. I hold my undergraduate degree from Loyola University with a focus in Literature, Secondary Education and the Classics (Latin). I continued my educational journey and earned my M.S. in Educational Leadership from Delaware Valley University which helped me in my role as Assistant Head of School at Grey Nun Academy.
In 2020, I began the journey to receive my Wilson Reading certificate. I have enjoyed diving into all aspects of the science of reading. As a certified Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner (W.D.P.), I am proud to help struggling readers and put them on a path to reading independence- and enjoyment. Reading truly is the gateway to knowledge!
For me, tutoring is the heart of teaching, working with students one-on-one. It is my honor to be part of a student's success story!
Your student's new school year is underway! I hope grades will be good, organization is in place and smiles are plentiful! If any of those things are not true at your house, please call. I can help get your student on track- successful and confident!
